Norris has failed to meet expectations after being the centerpiece of the Nationals’ trade for Gio Gonzalez in 2011, but he’s still just 27 and has some power, hitting double-digit home runs each of the past three seasons. But he’s coming off a career-worst .186/.255/.328 slash line, and Washington only has career backup Jose Lobaton behind him on the depth chart. If Norris falters, the catcher spot could be a real weak point of the lineup.
Like the Cubs, the Nationals also have to replace a rental closer who bolted this offseason. Steady Mark Melancon, who solidified a shaky bullpen and helped clinch a division title for Washington, left for San Francisco. They tried to nab All-Star closer Kenley Jansen away from the Dodgers despite reportedly offering him $5 million more than Los Angeles, and were beat out by the Cubs for Wade Davis.
The battle looks like a race between the hard-throwing Blake Treinen and veteran Shawn Kelley, although neither has closing experience, proving to be a big risk in the Nats’ quest to repeat as NL East champs.
Seattle would love if an offensive lineman got close to dropping here, but outside of Western Michigan’s Taylor Moton, it’s too early for a lineman. Instead, they fill a huge void at cornerback.
McCaffrey seems highly likely to be a first-round pick, though finding the perfect spot for him isn’t easy. The Chiefs, who just lost Jamaal Charles and don’t have a true identity at the position, could use McCaffrey to amplify Alex Smith’s play.
If Harris is available and no major prospect slips, I’d be surprised if NBA Jerseys Wholesale he’s not the pick. The Cowboys need pass rushers and Harris fits the Cowboys’ mold.
