Hernandez has had to make due with less run support than many
In terms of touches last season, Derrick Rose (78.8), Porzingis (60.5) and Anthony (60.4) led the team. Rose is now on the Cavs, and Anthony would be gone in this scenario. Irving would likely see an increase from his touches last season with the Cavs (79.0) if he did get traded to the Knicks and find more opportunities to put on those spectacular dribbling displays fans love to see. Irving was actually most efficient scoring when taking seven dribbles or more, as FiveThirtyEight’s Chris Herring noted in his breakdown of Irving as a No. 1 option.
If Irving wants to head to NYC, that’s fine. He shouldn’t expect to reach the NBA Finals (or the first round) every season.
But don’t take all of that Knicks talk as a guarantee Irving will eventually play under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden. The Timberwolves are approaching a possible Irving trade with “incredible seriousness,” according to Jon Krawczynski of the Associated Press. It’s important to note there is no guarantee, at this stage, Minnesota forward Andrew Wiggins, who was originally selected No. 1 overall by Cleveland in the 2014 NBA Draft and later traded as part of the deal for Kevin Love, would be sent back to the Cavs in a package for Irving. That could be a dealbreaker.
Instead, Hernandez has had to make due with less run support than many, if not most, other top hurlers would appear to receive. Take one telling statistic from Baseball-Reference.com, that Hernandez has received 0-2 runs of support in 35.7 percent of his games for his career thus far. This seems unusually low for any pitcher outside of the Deadball Era or 1960s. It differs sharply from at least three pitchers Trade Cheap Jerseys with decent Hall of Fame chances:
Hernandez has gone 25-74 in games where the Mariners have given him two or fewer runs of support and 134-39 in all other appearances. The sheer number of low-scoring games he’s Youth Authentic Cheap Jerseys pitched in has almost certainly cost him wins.
