This is not to say Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau can’t fix some of Irving’s deficiencies on the defensive end or that Irving isn’t worth chasing. He’s a spectacular player and one of the league’s best offensive weapons. He’s a threat to score 30 or more points every night.
That’s why these teams are in hot pursuit. Despite all of the controversy surrounding Irving, he has the potential to boost a team up a tier in the NBA’s hierarchy. We’ll see how much a franchise is willing to send the Cavs to get him.
Accompanied by Bellinger and star shortstop Corey Seager, Turner is a crucial cog in the lineup yet again because of his continued refinement. Albeit a sound contact hitter (85.8-percent contact rate) throughout his career, he showcased limited upside in the power department during his days in the Reds, Orioles and Mets organizations.
But Turner’s isolated power (ISO) began to rise when he moved west and eventually vaulted from .153 in 2014 to .218 in 2016, when he hit a career-high 27 homers.
“It was about continuing to work, getting in the cage and finding that comfortable feeling,” Turner said. “Once you find it, hold onto it as long as you can.”
This season, the 32-year-old boasts a .367/.463/.570 slash line in 72 games, along with 11 homers and 42 RBIs. According to FanGraphs, Turner’s 175 wRC+ would even rank second in MLB behind Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, but he doesn’t have enough plate appearances to qualify after missing time with a hamstring injury.
For Puig, his past struggles manufactured more newsworthy dismay than Turner’s. He was optioned to the club’s Triple-A affiliate in August 2016 after accumulating a career-worst .706 OPS. Puig was eventually recalled that September, but he failed to regain a consistent starting role for the playoffs.
“I was too young, and I wanna hit home runs every time,” Puig said. “The pitchers Pittsburgh Steelers Cheap Jerseys see that, pitch me outside and I swung at everything. This Rugby Cheap Jerseys year, I’m more patient.”
